Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) and Albert Costa (Oregon Team) have their sights set on the same objective this season: the Eurocup Megane Trophy title. To prove the point the duo went fastest in Friday’s collective testing at Motorland Aragon, Schothorst heading the morning’s timesheets and Costa the afternoon’s. Keeping them company was Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team).

Pre-season testing for the 2012 Eurocup Megane Trophy came to a close this week with two days of sessions in Barcelona. Picking up where team-mate Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team) left off at Motorland Aragon, Albert Costa (Oregon Team) and Fabien Thuner (Oregon Team) dominated proceedings, but with half a dozen drivers staying within a second of each other throughout, it promises to be quite a battle for the title.

With six drivers in the same second throughout the first collective testing sessions of the year, the new season promises to be action-packed. Much will be expected of the impressive Albert Costa (Oregon Team), but the 2009 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 champion will face stern opposition from team-mates Fabien Thuner and Niccolo Nalio, as well as from TDS Racing pair Bas Schothorst and Kelvin Snoeks, who were also up with the pace. It was Nalio, however, who set the tempo and was the fastest man overall after two days of testing.

As planned last week, organisers for the World Series by Renault have named the 13 teams which have been accepted for the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 championship. Changes see the Epic Racing and Mofaz outfits replaced by newcomers Arden and DAMS, already experienced outfits in the world of GP2.

GP2 team DAMS has announced that it is to work alongside Epic Racing at this week’s World Series by Renault test session in Barcelona, which is taking place at the Circuit de Catalunya on Tuesday and Wednesday. The French team hopes to enter the series next year.
