Having arrived at the Hungaroring 32 points behind championship leader Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing), Albert Costa (Oregon Team) is now just four points adrift of the Dutchman in the Eurocup Megane Trophy after picking up his second win of the weekend. After a frantic first few laps, Albert Costa never looked in any real trouble and took the victory ahead of Oregon Team team-mates Fabien Thuner and Kevin Gilardoni, making it a one-two-three result for the Italian team.

After taking the lead following a hefty collision with Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing), Albert Costa (Oregon Team) held on to record his third Eurocup Mégane Trophy victory of the season. The win reduces the gap between Costa and championship leader Schothorst from 32 points to 17. Stefano Comini came from second-to-last on the grid to finish in second place, while Kevin Gilardoni (Oregon Team) came third to complete the podium.

Stefano Comini (Team Lompech Sport) came out on top after a rain-affected first session, but it was Albert Costa (Oregon Team) who proved to be the fastest man of the day in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy. The Spaniard, who is in hot pursuit of Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) at the top of the championship standings, made the ideal start to the weekend by recording the best lap of the day.

Albert Costa (Oregon Team) produced the perfect drive to notch his second Eurocup Megane Trophy win. Setting a pace no one else could match, the Spaniard took the chequered flag from Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team) and Tom Coronel (TDS Racing), cutting the gap on championship leader Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing), who could only finish fifth.

It did not take Albert Costa (Oregon Team) long to get to grips with the subtleties of the Moscow Raceway. The Spaniard was in unbeatable form on Friday morning, going more than a second faster than the rest of the Eurocup Megane Trophy field, headed by his team-mates Kevin Gilardoni (Oregon Team) and Fabien Thuner (Oregon Team). Costa would remain there following an afternoon session interrupted by a heavy storm.

The rain made an unexpected appearance in Race 2 with spectacular consequences. Having set off on slick tyres when wets were clearly the better option, the Eurocup Megane Trophy’s frontrunners quickly found themselves at the wrong end of the field. But after taking advantage of an appearance from the safety car, they were eventually able to pull themselves back into the race. After a thrilling final few laps, it was Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) who took victory ahead of Albert Costa (Oregon Team).

Before today, Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) had won every race in this season’s Eurocup Megane Trophy. As part of his bid to prevent the Dutchman from winning again today, Albert Costa decided to don the helmet he wore when he drove to victory in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Barcelona last season. The move paid off, as the Spaniard secured his first Eurocup Megane Trophy win ahead of Fabien Thuner (TDS Racing) and Schothorst – a victory that puts him right back in the title race.
