History
Albert has been linked to the world of motor from very small: his father was champion of Spain in resistance and his brother competed in the World Championship in 250cc. Albert, of course, also had several motorcycles: Yamaha PW 50cc., Yamaha PW 80cc. and a Kawasaki KX 60cc.
During that time he learned many things then apply for his racing career. Also, running on a motorbike with his brother helped him to acquire the spirit of fighting for victory until the end.
In 2000 his father Lluís received a call from Jaime Alguersuari ‘father’, family friend. Jaime proposed that his son Albert took part in the first edition of the tournament 'Trophy Marc Gene: promises of karting'.
For Albert was the first time that he ran in a kart and he not only participated, also won over the rest.
Given these results, Arisco proposed dispute the Catalan and Spanish championship, where Albert excelled in every race.
In 2002, with the team Benikarts Juan Santos, Albert returned to show his qualities at the wheel of a kart and proclaimed champion of Spain and Catalonia.
A year later, in 2003, Costa moved to the Yamaha category and was half of the championship in Benikarts and half in the team of El Vendrell Sport Kart, with Tony Kart and brothers Gil: the second part of championship was much better.
In 2004 he followed in Sport Kart, this time in the Junior category, getting many "poles" but without ever getting race results. And there was another change of team, this time to Genikart, Genís Marcó-owned equipment. Although it was closing a great season, Albert had to leave the competition because his parents could not afford such expenses.
And Eduard Ratés appeared; he got a sponsor for Albert: Pamodín. With those revenues Albert could compete for the 2005 season.
In 2005 Albert was proclaimed champion of Italian Open Masters, or world champion. In addition, Genikart changed chassis (Birel to Intrepid) as the victory still has more merit.
The year 2006 was a difficult year. Genikart again changed chassis (FA) and Albert didn’t quite fit. However, Albert played the Asia Pacific Trophy in Suzuka where Costa had to leave for the crash of another driver (1st and 2nd in the pre-final). Besides, he did a few test in an F3.
In 2007 Albert took part in the British F3 Championship with Kimi Raikkonen's team but unfortunately had to leave after his sponsor, Akasvayu, could not continue to meet sponsorship. For Albert was a very hard time because he saw as its competitors were running: those whom he had fought in the circuits.
In 2008 Fernando Larratea got the necessary sponsors and Albert participated with the Epsilon Euskadi team in the Formula Renault 2.0 (Eurocup and WEC).
Costa showed the potential it had after having been long without running. However, he got great results but he also made errors of inexperienced.
The year 2009 was the best for Albert. He won two European championships and had 13 victories from 28 races in contention. Moreover, the worst result in the Eurocup was third.
At year end, Albert ran with the car WS3.5 and got great results (with little experience): a second place behind Red Bull test driver, Daniel Ricciardo.
In 2010 Albert raced his first year in the WS 3.5 and in a test at Montmelo circuit, suffered an accident and lost all the preseason, necesary to adapt to new car. Albert finished the championship in 5th place, in a same points with the 4th. A wonderful place to be a roockie.
This 2011, Albert opts to final victory and make a change to a higher level and be an F1 test driver.
